Eight houses A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are situated across a street not necessarily in the same order. The houses are north facing. They are painted in a different colour: Blue, pink, red, white, green, black, yellow and purple. The arrangement is based on the following rules:

• H is 2nd to the right of the pink house.

• There are 5 houses between the red and the purple house

• Pink coloured house is to the immediate left of the red coloured house

• There are 2 houses between G and the blue house. G is not purple, pink or red coloured.

• Yellow and green houses are immediate neighbours of G

• D is 3rd to the left of the yellow coloured house

• C has the white coloured house to its immediate left

• There are 2 houses between the purple house and A

• E is 4^th to the right of F

Eight persons A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H stay in an eight storeyed building where the floors are numbered 1-8 from bottom to top. Seven of them like different fruits: mango, apple, pineapple, kiwi, orange, plum and pear not necessarily in the same order. One of them does not like any fruit.

• One who likes pineapple stays at a gap of 4 floors from D.

• One who likes kiwi stays just above B who lives at a gap of 5 floors from the one who likes mango.

• One who likes mango stays at a gap of 2 floors from G.

• One who likes no fruit lives just above C who is at a gap of 2 floors from A

• The one who likes pear lives just above E

• D and the one who likes no fruit stays at a gap of three floors

• A and B stay on consecutive floors

• One who likes orange and F stays at a gap of 3 floors.

• A does not like orange and G does not like pear.

• Not more than 3 persons live below the one who likes plum.

We know that: • One who likes kiwi stays just above B who lives at a gap of 5 floors from the one who likes mango • One who likes mango stays at a gap of 2 floors from G Hence we have 2 possibilities: Now we know that: • One who likes pineapple stays at a gap of 4 floors from D. • One who likes no fruit lives just above C who is at a gap of 2 floors from A • D and the one who likes no fruit stays at a gap of three floors • A and B are on consecutive floors Combining both the scenarios we get the following cases: Case 1: • The one who likes pear lives just above E.
